Heyyyyy all my mates! haha
a thousand apologies for my long leave of absence. been very very busy lately with all my school work and organizing my timetable for study. phew..
not to mention the dreaded assignments, at least one essay a week ! or two in fact! weeeeee
but i enjoy writing!
alrite maybe i should introduce my units, in case anyone is still clueless about what am i studying.
i'm creative industries (faculty) and my major is communication design.
this sem i'm taking

1) writing for creative industries
loads and loads of writing in an acadamic style, to develop competent prose for specific academic and creative industry applications
2) cultures and creativity
foster your ability to critically analyse and evaluate cultural practices and concepts, and to develop your own creative and critical skills. really interesting! have to do a creative journal containing all your creative works
3) marketing
Comprehend and conceptualise marketing principles, theories and functions and explain why marketing is important to contemporary organisations
4) business communication 1
improve the English communication skills of international students who are studying for business and professional communication diplomas. The unit encompasses skills development in reading, writing, listening and speaking. It provides strategies for understanding, composing and presenting information in an academic context.

i really like the writing unit *even though i had to write quite alot*
especially the latest one which is descriptive writing this week! quite interesting..
we did peer review in groups, giving feedback on each person's writing. our regular lecturer Josie was down this week from stomach flu. so two of her colleagues came down to help out.
i got a positive remarks for my writing
Joanne say i have a good feel for it and asked if i do creative writing before.
Really really felt good with the positive comments. but i know my writing still need alot of polishing.
cultures n creativity is cool too.. knowing various cultures and analysing them
marketing in intriguing, its really interesting how different corporations and companies's marketing strategy to influence the market.
business comm..haha
the lecturer tim is damn humourous and he knows my name because i always sit in front.
haha..

Woah, its yet another rainy day again. And Cold too! Brrr...
Today in school i only had marketing workshop which was quite interesting.
Saw a video of case studies about companies. One interesting example is GreenPeace, an non-profit environmentalist organisation. Its company vision is to provide the Earth with green solutions. They managed to get Coke to use cfc-free fridges. Initially Coke refused to do it, but after a huge brand smear campaign. One of the world's largest soft-drink corporations had to submit due to it's dipping pubicity. Pretty outstanding for a independant organisation.

When to the city and open ANZ bank account for my savings. I felt that having two Banks will be more convenient for me. One for expenditure and the other for saving up. Damnity..the sky continued to drizzle in the afternoon. Next i bought some stuff at BIG W, just got some cardboard folders to store my notes. When i decided to head for home, it started to rain heavily. Gah!!

And tonight's dinner is...tah dah! Broccoli with prawns, crab meat and oyster sauce!!!! Yummm

Gahhhhhhhh.
It has been a long long day for me. Not a really good day because, i got the wrong textbook for marketing! sigh.
Today is the 1st lecture for Marketing and it is on chapter one. I wanted to go early to school, buy the textbook and read chapter one before the lecture starts. I did accomplished my objective and felt pretty good and prepared for the lecture. To my horror, the lecturer told us about a certain term during the lecture and i cannot find it in the book. Later when i asked him if i got the right book, he said no. The copy i had is the 2003 edition and the correct version is 2005. Damnity!
I checked the book list and realized that they made a serious mistake. Because of some typing error on the booklist. Way to go man...

Today was dull for the first half of my day in school. The computing class which only a handful of us attended was darn borrrrrrrring. The lecturer taught us how to write the format of a report. Which i do not think is necessary for my course. Sigh.. but still, it will be useful to know it in the future.
After lunch i had another class on writing assignments for university. This workshop is really informative and definately related to my course. Rena, the language advisor taught us how to analyse the question. Look out for content and directive words in the question and so forth.
Really good stuff for my eassy writing!

Met Raymond at Gardens Points to have a look at market day. i got quite a few freebies like chocolate bars and a laptop bag! yeahhh..
Had coffee with Ray at West End. Really talked alot about ourselves and church stuff. We looked at each others photos on our respective laptops. He has way more pictures then me..haha..
After our coffee session, i joined him in the prayer meeting held by Hope Brisbane.
Really solid, prayer meeting which lasted 4hrs! phew..never prayed so much and so long in a long long time! Sigh, tommorrow is Marketing lecture and i don't have the textbook. i just found out, i need to like read the 1st chapter for lecture. Drat...
Suppose to buy today but i and my friends decide to ask the lecturer for the correct version. Because there were so many editions in the bookstore..Gah!
Have to go early tommorrow and buy it! And read it before lecture...=(

1st Day of SCHOOL!!!
yay.......haha
And my first lesson is at 4pm. Righttttt
Reason?? Week one has no tutorials..yay
Today's class is Writing for Creative industries. A unit that sounds very daunting indeed.
The class started by introducing ourselves, a choice which our very nice lecturer Josie has given us. hehe
we had to introduce our names, what is our most interesting experience and draw an object which is the complete opposite of our nature. Cool....and it's quite fun and interesting to learn more about my classmates. After the fun died down, we had to turn serious and write a 100-150 word paragraph describing what kind of writer we believe ourselves to be.
Wow, that is a hard one!
I do not know how on earth am i gonna comment my own writing skills. She gave us a sheet of paper, which contains a table of points of the composing process of inexperienced and experienced writers. Even with this table, i felt quite stuck in writing this paragraph. And i took quite a bit of time to evaluate myself.
And i got my first peice of homework today, which is to read our textbook. And make notes for an eassy next coming monday. gah....stress

Computer Classes @ 9am in school today! dammity...
sigh..and i already knew most of the stuff they were trying to teach us.
but still no harm learning again, i might learn something new yah? =P
Went to the bookshop to look at the textbooks. i just need one marketing textbook and its freaking
$98 mula! Darn! Freaking expensive!

No freaking way! i'll see what's the alternative. Maybe can get it cheaper else where, no point sia. But if things are really that bad i think i may have to buy it. And try to sell it next semester..sigh
Met up with Ranger tonight for dinner at West End *2nd time this week*. Actually, he wanted to bring me to another place for fish n chips, but due to the weekend it was unavailable. Full House.
So we went to West End to have vietnamese food. I had the special beef noodle soup and it was fantastic! The price is really gd too! $8 for the noodles and we had grilled pork with rice paper wraps. Marvelous!

Finished off the meal with coffee at Zomba, a lounge at West End too. Nice place with good ambience..zen style..haha..complete with water fountain in the middle. Cool place.
Ranger and i talked about alot of things. Stuff in Aussie like racial problems, jobs, lifestyle and even politics..haha aussie and singapore stuff. And NS life..haha..when u put 2 Sinagporean males together this will naturally happened. I can see that he has changed alot, more outspoken, mature and very goal orientated. Something which i want to have during my stay here. =)
Great day and i'm sleepy...zzzzz

Another slow and quiet day...gah!
Spend most of my time reading my essay books. Sigh...
Well the more interesting part was at night where i went to have coffee with Bryan and his neighbours! Head down to West End to a coffee joint called The Three Monkeys..haha!
Pretty weird name, but the interior deco was nice. Very Bohemian look. There were persian rugs mounted on the walls, dark curtains draped on wooden frames. A very gipsy and mysterious atmosphere. Nice place to chill out.
The coffee is pretty good and reasonably priced. Me, Shawn, Bryan, Alvin and Kelvin played poker and just talk. i had quite a gd time, laughing and chatting with them.
Will look forward to having another outing with them again. =)

O - Week! Or rather O - Day. Hur hur. =P
O is for orientation. =)
Yeah, today i woke up early. But i was 15 minutes late! Damnity.
Guess i took my morning run too seriously, or rather i was struggling with the steep slopes of my running route. Argh!
When i bathed and got dressed, it was 8:30am. Whoops, that's the stated time for O-day to start.
Hurry, hurry! It's a good thing my place is just a stone's throw from my campus. And i knew exactly where is P block. I reached there within 10 minutes and i saw alot of people still gathered a the lobby. Right...it hasn't started yet. Darn, and i ran all the way! phew.
Anyway i registered, got my name tag *argh, i don't like name tags* together my package of papers and i just waited. It's a good thing i arrived slightly late, or else i will be waiting like mad till 9:15am. Thank God!

The Director gave us her welcome speech and stuff. She highlighted all the important stuff, like attendance, the grade point average you have to achieve to go to your faculty of choice. Mine is 5, Damn stressed! The rest were Yahda Yahda Yahda....quite mundane. After the whole brief, she asked us if we have any questions. And this guy asked a redundent question on where can he smoke. gah! everyone's eyes must have rolled at his question.
The building was pratically an area totally filled of No Smoking signs? i think i will draw a yellow box for him..haha *NS personal will know what i'm talking about*

Had tea after the briefing, darn long queue for the foody. i didn't feel like queuing up for the food, because the the crowd was freaking huge. But the student mentors were really nice by offering drinks to people who were just standing around.
I don't mind skipping out on the food, because i had my breadfast. So i was just standing around and waiting for time to past. Quite bored, due to the fact mostly everyone had their own clicks. And they were talking in cantonese or chinese. Gah.

But to my suprised, a student mentor came up to my introduce herself to me. It turns out that she's in the same course as mem, but she's doing her 2nd semester now. Can't really remember her name because she's japanese. It's Ikumasu?? haha..will update when i see her again.
She's practially gathered all of the people in Prof Com and introduce us to each other. Great!
I finally got to known the 1st Singaporean in my course, her name is Therese. Graduated from JI and had worked for a few years, she plans to major in Mass Comm. Another girl named Esther from Malaysia, a guy called Ted from Taiwan. Plus other assorted guys and girls from Taiwan and China. Can't really remember their names..haha
Anyway our course cohort is pretty small, there are less then 20 people i think.

After tea was the units online enrolment, which was a breeze, due to the fact that i had already done my student id card. And activated my QUT virtural. In around 15mins i was all done in selecting my units and confirming them. After that i went off for an early lunch with Therese and Esther. hehe...The rest had to do their student cards and password and had to follow the program, haha!. Good thing i already done those over 1 week ago, therefore i had lunch *free! Courtesy of the sch* at the refectory *canteen*. Had fried noodles, which was pretty dry...urgh.

After lunch we had to head back for this language and learning session. Rena, whom is the language adviser, asked all of us to write a short essay about ourselves. And she expected a higher standard from all the creative industry people. Doh! i have to write as creatively as possible for this eassy!
damnity... Anyway, it's for her to gauge our standard of writing. I really hope for next week to come, so i can see how i fare. Really want to improve my writing!

And that ends my orientation.....yay =P

Another Slow Day..spend most of my time reading books and doing Vocabulary.
Found this poem online.

English Translation:
In the North there is a lady, stunning and singular.
One look confounds a city; a touch dooms an empire.
Rather not wishing to know, the ruination that may follow,
rare beauty is here and now.

It's was used in the film, House of Flying Daggers and was composed by the poet Li Yannian.
Quite profound in a certain sense. One single obsession of an object of desire, can do real damage to your health. Of course it was quite common in the olden days, where a rare beauty can cause the emperor to lose grip of reality. Thus causing the downfall of his reign and there goes one dynasty. And all thanks to one chio bu. Damnity...

Of cause this not a one sided affair where women is only involved. It can be other things like, drugs, alcohol, money, monkeys ect. Or whatever object that causes your complusive side to break out, like bananas. haha!

In another perspective, the lady is quite tragic in a sense she is blessed with such great beauty. But her destiny is not in her hands, rather she has to sacrifice for the sake of her country and fuifill her mission. Sort of like Diao Chan in Romance of the Three Kindoms. Chosen to cause turmoil between Lu Bu and Dong Zhou.
The Lady is a caged phoenix, unable to soar in the sky. That depicts the du li, the last two words in the 1st line. She remains singular and most likely to a point lonely.
Hmmm..quite like Zhang Ziyi character in the movie, House of Flying Daggers.
Haha..so sorry for the melancholy reviews folks! haha..time to watch a comedy or something =P

Sigh.....another slow day.....haha
Went to Hope Brisbane Christian Church again today. Great praise and worship! i really enjoyed it.
After Church, Shawn and i went to Sunnybank by train.

Shawn and me on the train

Interior of the train

My first train ride in Brisbane..haha..interesting layout..very different from the MRT.
And the train door is automatic when u board. But when u want to alight, u need to open it yourself by twisting the handle.
When we reached Sunnybank, we thought we were at the wrong place. The was no shopping centres or any shops of any kind. Only rows and rows of houses. Gah!
Really ulufied! super suburbs! help!
Only by stopping a car and asking for directions did we know how to walk there. i heard from so many other people telling me about Sunnybanks. All the asian food, it's the real Chinatown then the Valley. It's xiao Taipei and stuff. But when we got there is was quiet and most of the shops were closed. Dammity!

Sigh..in the end we just walked about for a bit and i went to Coles and got the Chicken bones i been searching for yesterday but was unsuccessful.
On the way back, i and Shawn for no reason felt really sleepy....so we just zzzz all the way back home..haha
And tonight's dinner isssssss proudly cooked by Shawn:
Fried Rice with hot dogs, crab stick, mixed veg and roast chicken...yum yum..haha
yay..tml is monday!

Another SLOW and LAZY day...yawnz
Weekends in Brisbane can get really dull and unexciting..
i Guess the wide-eye wonderment and excitement of Brisbane is losing it's touch. >_< src="http://h1.ripway.com/hibino/Emo/grin.bmp">
i learned how to use the libary online catalogue to narrow down and search for specific books that i want. Another useful thing i learned is planning a search for assignment topics. Breaking it down into different concepts and synonyms. This session is good!

After the session ended, i went to town to meet up with Shawn. His parents have flown back to Singapore in the afternoon. And the feeling of lonliness is starting to hit him. Haha..awww man, it sucks. i've been there too.

Did groceries shopping again today at Coles..supply of food running low..>_<
Bought quite alot of stuff. Like chicken, hot dogs, ham, veggies, fruits. The final price hit till $78 !
But we shared the cost which is quite alright, each of us only paid $39.

Anddddddddd tonight's dinner is........PASTA! yuummmyyy...hehe

Slept till 9 plus am this morning. Haha! i was really tired last night. Usually i will be up at 8am
but not today. i spend the whole day at home, enrolling my units and planning my timetable.
Really wanted to fit my schedule to enable myself to go for all of the academic skills support seminars provided by TALSS. But darn, one of the unit's timetable is not out yet! grrrr
hopefully it will be out by tommorrow and i can plan for my timetable fully.

Today i cleaned out the living room *my area cleaning duty*...phew had to vaccum the whole floor which is carpet! Ines compliment how clean it was when she returned home..haha..alrite. =)

Oh here's how my home looks from the outside *thanks dear for hinting me to take the house =)*

2 years and 11 months.. one more month and its our 3 year, i can still remember how hilarous i must have looked when i confess my feelings to Carol at Sentosa. hee
Happy anniversary dear! Love u and miss you!

Today i had lunch with Shawn and his parents. Quite pai sey that they treated me. i must get some gifts for them tml. And pass it to Shaw before they leave. =) Had tim sum..but it was so-so. Not really good in fact in their service. Had to wait for so long for some Char Siew Paos.

Shaw's Family with me

Met up with Raymond today to go attend his cell group. There are 12 people in the group.
There are Raymond, Isacc, Judith, Ping, Wilson are from Hong Kong. Sisi a sister from Zimbabwe. 2 Malaysian sisters and a brother *sorrie i forgot their names, i will update again*, Francis from Brunei. Zee is from China but he's now an Aussie.

Cell group is quite interesting. They will have a short prayer before ice-breakers. And right after that they will break for a quick meal. And then praise and worship comes in, and their p&w is like church style. Where the guy who is leading p&w is in the front and we are facing him.
The lyrics are paste on to the walls. Really useful, no need to hold on to a sheet of lyrics. =)
For today's sharing, Raymond talked to us about the Language of Love.

I think i have heard this before. Everyone has different love languages. Some respond to words, others to touch. There are 5 areas 1) Word of Affirmation 2) Quality time 3) Receiving Gifts
4) Acts of Service 5) Physical Touch
Raymond gave us a Love Profile Test to see which language do we respond to. my love language is Acts of Service. Which is quite true, i really felt touched when my cell group helped me to pack my bags at the airport for example.

After cell, they had a Valentine's Day gift exchange. And i had no gift!
Luckily Raymond had a gift for me. i felt quite bad...but he said no worries coz he forgot to tell me about it. haiz..he's really nice =)
And guessed what did i got??

Chocolate Bear Cake!

Damn cute right? haha..i got quite a shock when i saw it, because it was in a box. Really lovely.
i can't finished this on my own. Gonna share all of it with my housemates

Busy busy day today!
In the morning i attended the studying and learning session @ my campus. It's was packed! there were barely enought tables and chairs for everyone. weird, because i booked this session through the phone. they should have know the numbers and be well prepared. i guess some students just walked in and never booked for a session at all.
Basically this briefing is just giving us some basic information about Uni envioronment. How to do time management and stratgies on handling assignments and work. If we face problems, there's a teaching and support learning services that can assist us. QUT is really good in taking care of the students! =)

Met Raymond for lunch today. He's from the church i went to last sunday. He's a really nice guy from Hong Kong and currently studying for his Masters now. He's a nurse. haha
His friend Issac and Judith joined us for lunch too. We went to the Fortitude Valley, usually the locals just called it the Valley. Chinatown is situate there. We went to this small cafe for chinese food. It's not bad, i had stirred fried beef with bitter gourd and rice set. It comes with mushroom soup and a drink. Costs only $9.00, so it's not bad. Quite a huge serving too.
I tried to talk to them in cantonese cause they are all from Hong Kong. But too bad my command of cantonese is quite limited. =P

When i reached home, i realized that Shaw * the guy i met last friday with his parents*. Has moved in! yeah..really happy to have another fellow S'porean under one roof. yEah..talked about alot of stuff with him. we had dinner together and i just cooked for the both of us.
A simple meal of fried rice. hehe..it was quite good =)
I showed him my photos on my laptop to Shawn and Tamara. Really enjoyed myself today!
